biography

Conductor Joss Reinicke (born 1993), who grew up in Denmark, works with a wide variety of ensembles, orchestras, and choirs both in Germany and abroad. He is the founder of several musical groups and is currently the artistic director and conductor of EnsembleOhm, polyLens vokal, and the Lörrach Motet Choir. He enjoys a close collaboration with the asambura ensemble, with whom he served as artistic co-director, recording works such as MessiaSASAmbura and LUX PERPETUA for the decurio label. In 2026, he conducted at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, conducted the opening concert of the TONALi Festival, and has also worked with ensembles such as the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and Ensemble Recherche. As a lecturer, Joss Reinicke regularly conducts the Ensemble for New Music at the Freiburg University of Music and collaborates with numerous young composers at German music academies.

With a broad repertoire spanning from the 17th century to the present day, Joss Reinicke is fascinated by working with historically informed ensembles as well as the collaboration between composers, directors, dancers, and choreographers. He has led performances of experimental music theater and conducted opera productions at the Salzburg Pocket Opera Festival, the Saarbrücken State Theatre, and the Lake Studios Berlin. He has also prepared choirs for the HR Symphony Orchestra and the Deutsche Philharmonie Merck.

In the 2022/23 season, Joss Reinicke was a conducting academy member of the SWR Vocal Ensemble, where he collaborated with renowned conductors. Prior to this, he studied music education, philosophy, conducting/choral conducting, music theory, and contemporary music ensemble conducting at music academies in Freiburg, Saarbrücken, and Trossingen, with periods of study abroad at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York (USA), the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (Switzerland), and in Montreal (Canada). He received significant inspiration from masterclasses with conductors such as Michael Alber, Rüdiger Bohn, Douglas Bostock, Sian Edwards, Manuel Nawri, Jorma Panula, and Peter Rundel.

As a lecturer at the University and Music Academy in Freiburg and the HfMDK Frankfurt, Joss Reinicke leads events on topics such as "Musical Cultures of a Globally Networked Present", "Zero Hour? Aesthetics and Culture of Remembrance after the Second World War", "Overview of Music History", "Music Education", "Harmony Theory" and "Counterpoint" and also works regularly as a music educator for the SWR Symphony Orchestra.

For his achievements, Joss Reinicke was accepted into the German National Academic Foundation in 2018, received the Germany Scholarship in 2017, DAAD scholarships for stays abroad in Montréal and Rochester/New York, and the Bayreuth Scholarship of the Richard Wagner Society in 2022.
